A few weeks ago, I saw that Dede from Dress Up Buttercup took her sister and aunts to afternoon tea at Bouchée Patisserie at the Post Oak Hotel. The photos looks so colorful and festive. It immediately had me thinking how much I'd enjoy an outing like that.
I called mommy up (as I do every day) and I told her that I had discovered a cute spot in town that was doing tea and that I'd like to invite her. In looking at the weekends that the tea was available, I thought it would be a good opportunity to continue mommy's birthday festivities. Although Tina wasn't available to join us, it was still a special girls' outing. I called and reserved our spot and spoke to Carla - the wonderful manager who made the whole outing oh-so-special!
Obviously, we're in the middle of a pandemic so we kindly requested a table outside. Upon our arrival, we saw our table all set up and ready for us. We were warmly greeted by Carla who serviced us all afternoon - with great care and enthusiasm.
She provided us bottles with dry tea leaves and we learned about the 12-tea selection - English Breakfasts, Peppermint, Flowery Earl Grey, Chamomile, Chai, Winter Berry, and Jasmine teas. Each one evoked memories of teas past. After sniffing out the competition, we settled on Chai, Flowery Earl Grey and Mountain Berry.
Chai - Black tea, chicory, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon bark, ginger root, star anise, licorice, and natural flavors
Flowery Earl Grey - Black tea, natural bergamot oil, cornflower petals
Mountain Berry - Elderberry, hibiscus, currant, saskatoon berry, and natural flavors
Carla guided us not he best way to enjoy each tea and left us to enjoy the unseasonably warm winter day. In the beautiful 70-degree weather, we started with the Chai and talked about planning afternoon tea for Tante Mona after she finished her treatments, preserving Lebanese recipes, we talked about playing with eyeshadow and make up (mommy claimed that I've become a professional so let's see about that), and talked about plans after the pandemic. Carla delivered our aqua cabinet of special treats - savory finger sandwiches and sweet treats. Our personal favorite was the scone with Devonshire cream, a lemon curd and homemade raspberry jam. These bites were enjoyed slowly and with great excitement. Carla checked on us, serving us the other teas, leaving lingering smiles on our faces.
The Scrumptious Treats:
Ham and Cheese with Garlic Aioli
Open-Faced Salmon Sandwich with Dill Cream Cheese
Cucumber and Red Bell Pepper Sandwich
Mini Quiche Lorraine
Apple and Cranberry Tartlets
Eggnog Macaron
Hazelnut Financier
Chocolate & Mint Grasshopper Mousse
Orange-Black Currant Scone with Lemon Curd, Raspberry Jam, and Devonshire Cream
After 3 hours of sipping and chatting, mommy and I said our goodbyes and I made my way to the car - disposable face mask smearing my make up and ready with wipes to clean up after our valet dropped off the car - a short escape from the world around us.
With Mommy (and Carla!)
