La Condesa

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

I woke up at 4:30am on Sunday to take the boys up to La Grange for Day 2 of the BP MS150.

While I was waiting at the hotel in Austin, I took it upon myself to pick a restaurant for dinner. I was choosing between Second and Uchi. In the meantime, Lauren, Erin and I went to brunch at Annie's. Once we picked up the guys, they decided they wanted margaritas.. Back to the drawing board. On our drive back to the hotel, we passed by a restaurant called La Condesa. Sounds like a place with 'ritas! We got there and the guys expected fajitas, too. False.

It was a high end tex-mex restaurant. We ordered the guacamole tasting - with 4 types of guacamole and 4 salsas. My favorite of them was the pomegranate guacamole. Another one had chipotle and toasted slivered almonds on top.

Round 2 was taquitos, Texas Redfish and Carnitas (not quite as scrumscious as mine, though). We also tried the Tuna Tostadas. These were the single best thing that we ordered. Small deep-fried Tortillas with sushi-grade tuna that was prepared with a heavenly marinade, pickled cucumber, crispy shallots, chipotle mayo, and habanero mustard. I only wish I was talented enough to guess what that marinade was.

Round 3 was recommended by our waitress. When we decided to take our waitress up on the offer, she was so excited. The Dulce De Leche is a cake, filled with a creamy caramel filling, acompanied by cream cheese ice cream. It was a sweet and salty dessert. Although delicious, it was slightly too salty.

I guess we got lucky that the boys wanted margaritas (which were smooth and perfect, with a twist).
